Local soccer star captains Ireland at international tournament
It has been a glorious week for local teenager Aimee Greene, who was handed the honour of captaining the Republic of Ireland women's Under-15 team at a UEFA development tournament in Zagreb, Croatia.
Aimee, 14, played a crucial role as Ireland began the three-game tournament with a convincing 5-0 victory against the host nation. Ireland were on the wrong side of a narrow defeat against Slovakia in the second outing, but will look to finish the tournament in style against Ukraine on Friday, August 28.
A daughter of Denise and Michael Greene, Aimee came through the ranks at the Temple Villa club before recently joining Athlone Town at U-17 level, and her latest accomplishments set her out as a rising star to follow in the coming years.
