Athlone fire service called to blaze at cottage in Kiltoom

Members of the Athlone Fire Service, accompanied by a unit from Roscommon, spent several hours bringing a fire under control at a domestic property in Kiltoom on Monday evening (August 24).

The incident occurred in Curramore, Kiltoom, at approximately 7.15pm.

Wesley Hudson, station officer at Athlone Fire Station, said the fire occurred at a cottage, and that nobody was present in the property at the time.

The fire was burning extensively on the roof of the cottage when the firefighters arrived, and they spent close to five hours at the scene working to extinguish it, before returning to base at around midnight.

There were no injuries as a result of the fire, and Mr Hudson said the cause was not known.
