Moate's Dancezone describes Civic Reception as 'the ultimate honour'

The Moate-based Dancezone Stage School has spoken of its pride after been awarded with a Civic Reception by Municipal District of Athlone-Moate last Friday.

Founder and director Sandra Julian took to social media to describe the occasion as 'the ultimate privilege', having been welcomed to the event at Athlone's Civic Offices.

The honour was bestowed on the stage school in recognition of its contribution to the local community spanning over 30 years.

'Now in our fourth decade, Dancezone is still committed to delivering excellence locally and nationally', Sandra said.

'The evening will be remembered and celebrated as one of the most important achievements for the Dancezone family past and present. It is written and recorded into the history books forever more', she added.

Sandra thanked the Municipal District of Athlone-Moate for hosting the event, on behalf of Westmeath County Council, as well as council members Cllr. Liam McDaniel (Cathaoirleach of Westmeath County Council), Cllr. Tom Farrell, Cllr. John Dolan, Cllr. Vinny McCormack, and Cllr. John Gibbons. She said that Cllr. Tom Farrell nominated the stage school for the recognition.

'This is an incredible honour and one we will cherish forever', she said.

Operating out of the Carmelite Church grounds in Moate, Dancezone recently received a total of 12 Dance Awards Ireland nominations for this year.

Sandra Julian received a total of five nominations, including categories such as Lifetime Achievement in Dance, Outstanding Contribution to Ireland’s Dance Industry, Dance Educator Award, Choreographer Award, and Dance Advocate Award.

Dance Awards Ireland will take place at The Mansion House in Dublin from Friday, October 23 to Monday, October 26.

The centrepiece of the Dance Awards Ireland weekend is an awards evening of recognition, live performance and celebration, bringing together Ireland’s dance community on Saturday, October 24.
