The Council is moving to acquire a number of derelict properties in Moate's Toorvalley housing estate, it has been confirmed.
At a recent meeting of Athlone Moate Municipal District, Cllr Vinny McCormack asked for an update for the derelict properties in the Toorvalley estate, which is situated on the Ballymore Road in Moate.
In response, the Council Executive said: "The District has moved to acquire the Toorvalley derelict properties through the compulsory acquisition process, which has now progressed to the final stage of vesting.
"The District is continuing to progress the remaining statutory requirements associated with the vesting process and will provide further updates as the matter advances."
Cllr Tom Farrell previously asked the local authority to take out a compulsory purchase order (CPO) on the unfinished area of the estate back in 2023.
At the time, he said there were 27 occupied houses in the estate, along with nine unoccupied houses, seven of which were "in poor condition". He added that foundations of some form were in place for the remaining 14 unbuilt houses.
