Athlone's Mandy Mynx releases second single ‘Golden Crown’

Athlone singer-songwriter Mandy Mynx has released her second single 'Golden Crown' following the success of her debut track 'The One I Loved So Well'.

Describing the new release as “another personal song”, Mynx says 'Golden Crown' takes her songwriting in a more powerful rock direction.

“This time we have built a full-on rock song to tell the story,” she said.

The song draws on Mynx’s own experiences of growing up with naturally blonde hair and the stereotypes and assumptions she encountered because of her appearance.

From being encouraged to dye her hair darker to hearing familiar jokes about blondes, those experiences ultimately inspired the track.

“Golden Crown is my way of reclaiming that part of myself,” Mynx said.

“It speaks to the strange contradiction of being noticed for how you look while being underestimated for who you are.”

However, the song’s message extends beyond her own experience. Mynx hopes it will resonate with anyone who has ever been judged or reduced to a stereotype.

“This isn’t a song about bitterness,” she said. “It’s about reaching the point where you no longer need to shrink, change or explain yourself to make other people comfortable.”

At the heart of the song is the line, “I think in gold, not shades of grey.” For Mynx, gold represents strength, self-acceptance and everything she has learned and built.

Her message is simple: “Never let anyone diminish your light. Embrace your glow…stand strong in who you are…and wear your Golden Crown.”
