The Westmeath Independent Community & Sports Awards were launched at a photocall in the Shamrock Lodge Hotel on Friday.
Joining staff from the Westmeath Independent were repesentatives of event partners, Westmeath County Council, whose ongoing support has been the lynchpin of the awards.
The awards are designed to acknowledge the work and achievements of individuals, groups and sporting clubs in our community,
The closing date for nominations is midnight, October 11.
The other sponsors for this year's awards ceremony are Byrne Carolan Cunningham LLP Solicitors, DPD Ireland, West-Midlands Credit Union and Shamrock Lodge Hotel.
The launch was addressed by Athlone-Moate Municipal District Mayor Cllr Liam McDaniel and by Westmeath Independent editor Tadhg Carey.
The awards are spread across two sections, community and sport, with four categories in each.
In the community section, the awards are: social inclusion award; group of the year; volunteer of the year and unsung hero.
The sports category also has four awards, namely young sports star of the year; outstanding achievement of the year; hall of fame and team of the year.
An overall winner in each of the community and sport categories will be also be chosen.
The awards ceremony will take place at the Shamrock Lodge Hotel on Thursday, November 5.
