Stretch of Old Rail Trail to close for renewal works

The Old Rail Trail will be temporarily closed to the public to facilitate essential renewal works in October and potentially early November.

The Galway to Dublin greenway route will have a 24 hour closure period for one continuous week between October 12 and November 6.

Westmeath County Council has confirmed that the greenway will close between the Tully and Garrycastle access points including access to the associated car parking facilities.

A spokesperson for the local authority said the specific dates of on which the Old Rail Trail will temporarily close "will be advertised in local papers and at the trail heads one week in advance of closure".

The council has advised that any person who wishes to make a submission on the closing of this section of greenway should lodge a submission in writing with the District Administrator, Municipal District of Athlone-Moate, Civic Centre, Church Street, Athlone, by 4pm on Thursday, September 24.
