James Carr achieved a milestone of 350 Athlone parkruns recently

Milestone celebrations at Athlone RSC parkrun

The weekly held parkrun at Athlone Regional Sports Centre celebrated a number of volunteer and participant milestones recently.

Paul Callaghan marked his 250th volunteering occasion, the first of its kind, at the weekend event.

Paul, who was the run director at Saturday's 5km event, was helped on the morning by a great crew of volunteers. Since the start of Athlone parkrun, Paul has taken on almost every role volunteer role available, from marshalling to time-keeping.

Paul is the co-event director of Athlone RSC parkrun, and in tandem with Colette Anderson, they both work behind the scenes to ensure the event goes ahead every week.

Also recently celebrating at Athlone parkrun were stalwarts Wally Browne who has now completed 200 events and James Carr who achieved 350 parkruns. Both bring great support and enthusiasm to the event each week.

Athlone RSC parkrun marks achievement milestones for 25, 50, 100, 250 and 500 parkrun participants or volunteers.

Athlone RSC parkrun is a free 5km event held every Saturday morning at 9.30am and is open to runners and walkers alike.

It starts at the front of the Athlone Regional Sports Centre and takes in the amenity park and a section of the Old Rail Trail greenway.

Participants take time to catch up over a cup of coffee in Centre Percs after the event.
