Mayo GAA plunged into mourning by death of county board chairman Seamus Tuohy

The death has taken place of the chairman of Mayo GAA County Board, Seamus Tuohy, Breaffy, Castlebar.

The news has plunged the sport in the county into a deep sense of sadness and grief.

Mr. Tuohy, who has served as chairman since 2021, died at the Galway Clinic yesterday (Tuesday) after a battle with illness.

Heartfelt sympathy is extended to the bereaved family on their loss.

Prior to his appointment as chairman, he served in a number of administrative roles within the organisation, including chairman of Bord na nÓg.

He was a key figure in the appointment of Mayo GAA's first-ever CEO earlier this year.

In his mid-60s, he was a retired member of the staff of Mayo Mental Health Services and was held in high regard for his dedication and professionalism.

The Breaffy clubman was proud to see his native county winning the All-Ireland SFC title last July after 75 years without the trophy.

Mayo County Council has postponed the planned civic reception, due to take place on Friday, for Mayo’s All-Ireland winners.

“On behalf of the cathaoirleach, the elected members, chief executive, Kevin Kelly, and the staff of Mayo County Council, I wish to extend our sincere sympathies to the Tuohy family and to his colleagues and friends throughout Mayo GAA at this difficult time,” a statement by the council outlined.

The funeral arrangement will be announced later.
