Low cost goods shop ReStore launches in Athlone

ReStore, a low-cost DIY store that sells pocket-friendly supplies and materials for home improvement opened its doors to Athlone public yesterday (September 23). Located in Monksland Retail Park, the Athlone store aims to cater to customers in the midlands.

The store, apart from championing sustainability, also tackles poverty by selling donated new and used building supplies and home improvement materials. It also provides skills and employability training for people of all ages and backgrounds and diverts tons of reusable waste from landfill.

Restore is the social enterprise of global nonprofit Habitat for Humanity, which helps build safe and affordable homes in more than 70 countries.This is the eighth ReStore in Ireland, which has a large presence in Northern Ireland.

Jenny Williams, Habitat’s Chief Executive, said: “We are delighted to open Habitat ReStore in Athlone and we are so thankful for the welcome we have received.

“ReStore is a unique workplace which brings together people of all ages and backgrounds, where everyone has something to give and something to gain so I would encourage local people to get involved in volunteering.

“Everything we sell is donated so support from companies, organisations and individuals is critical to the success of ReStore – you can see in-store that we have a broad range of DIY and home improvement materials at low cost.”
