Search on Lough Ennell for missing man in his 20s enters tenth day

The search for a missing Westmeath man is continuing into its tenth day today (Tuesday) on Lough Ennell in Mullingar.

The use of sonar and drones has been deployed in the search, which has been ongoing since since last Sunday, September 20.

The search involves An Garda Síochána, Civil Defence, Army services, the Air Corps, National Drone Search & Rescue, specialist search personnel and hundreds of volunteers from the local community and further afield.

In the course of the search, a 17-foot fishing boat belonging to the missing man was discovered abandoned on an island in Lough Ennell.

Sergeant Dermot Monaghan, of Athlone Garda Station, praised the contribution of local people to the search and confirmed the area being searched is approximately 48km in total.
