'Intersections of Poverty' event to be hosted at TUS for UN International Day of Eradication of Poverty

The Technological University of the Shannon, Athlone, is set to host an event titled 'Intersections of Poverty: Experiences from Disabled and LGBTQ+ Communities' this October to mark UN International Day of Eradication of Poverty.

The event, taking place on Saturday, October 17, from 11:30am to 3:30pm, will bring together Heartlands Pride Athlone, Independent People with Disabilities and the Disability Participation News Hub.

The event aims to bring together members from disabled, LGBTQ+ communities and allies to create a community space to share experiences on poverty and consider ways to make change happen.

It features a panel discussion with Q&A, a free lunch for attendees, and a Zine workshop to explore these themes through art.

There will also be a community action board where attendees are encouraged to share actions that can be taken to change systems that impact and further marginalise communities.

The panel discussion will take place from 11:30am to 1pm, followed by lunch from 1pm to 2pm, and concluding with a Zine workshop from 2pm to 3:30pm.

Spaces limited, registration essential. Register via Eventbrite.

This event is supported by the UN International Day of Eradication of Poverty grant through the Department of Social Protection.
