Local producers take home 17 Blas Na hÉireann awards
Local producers took home a total of 17 awards at this year's Blas Na hÉireann awards.
Now in its 19th year, Blas na hÉireann, The Irish Food Awards is the biggest competition for quality Irish produce on the island of Ireland with hundreds of entries in over 170 food and drink categories.
Taking place on Friday, October 2, in Dingle, the 19th Blas na hÉireann, The Irish Food Awards was Ireland's biggest competition for quality Irish produce on the island of Ireland.
This included three Gold awards, five Silver awards, and six Bronze awards, as well as three Best in County titles.
The biggest winner from the competition was Brideswell-based Waldron Family Meats, which Gold and Silver in the Bacon -Rashers Green (Streaky) category for their products Waldron Family Dry Cured Streaky Rashers and Waldron Family Old Style Streaky Rasher, Gold in the Bacon Products – Bacon category for their Waldron Family Dry Cured Eye Loin, and took home Bronze in Bacon- Rashers Green category for their Waldron Family Home Cured Back Rashers.
The company also took home the title of Best in Roscommon.
Monksland-based company Do Me A Flavour, run by Aoife Carty, received Gold in the Dairy -cream category for their Truffle and Pink Peppercorm Butter. Westmeath's Sugar Plum Sweetery received Bronze in the Chocolate – Seasonal cetagory for their Dubai Chocolate Heart.
Bon Chocolatiers, based in Tullamore and run by Athlone couple Daniel Linehan and Georgia Quealy, took home Silver in the Chocolate Collections category for their Signature Collection. The Tullamore-based company also received the title of Best in Offaly.
Oliver Carty & Family received Silver in the Bacon – Rashers Smoked (Streaky) category for their Signature Taste Maple Streaky Rashers, and Silver in the Ready meals & Prepared Foods (Hot) – Meat category for their SuperValu Signature Taste Slow Cooked Beef Featherblade with a Sweet and Sticky Guinness Sauce.
The company was awarded Bronze in the Bacon- Bacon Sweet category for their product Supervalu Bacon Chops with Hawaiian BBQ Sauce, as Bronze in the bacon – Bacon Added Flavour category for their Signature Taste Irish Hampshire Slow Cooked Bacom Roast with Honey & Maple Glaze, as well as double Bronze in the Bacon – Bacon Smoked category for both their Signature Taste Smoked Irish Hampshire Rack of Bacon and their Signature Taste Hampshire Smoked Bacon Tomahawks.
Red Rooster Coffee, run in Ballynacarrigy by Paul Maxwell, received Silver in the Coffee (Single Origin) category for their Barnyard Boogie product. The company also took home the title for Best in Westmeath.
