Students to gain business insight with London internship

Five students from Ballymahon Vocational School are set to embark on a unique educational experience this month, when they travel to London for a week-long internship with leading investment manager Schroders Greencoat Capital.

The students will spend a week gaining first-hand experience of the professional world and learning about the work carried out by one of Europe's leading investment managers specialising in renewable energy infrastructure.

The internship is part of an innovative partnership between Ballymahon Vocational School (BVS) and Schroders Greencoat Capital, which provides students with the opportunity to experience an international business environment and engage directly with professionals working in the industry.

Importantly, BVS is currently the only secondary school in Ireland to offer this unique internship opportunity with Schroders Greencoat Capital, making it an exceptional experience for the five students involved.

The initiative has been coordinated by Ann Hall, who has worked closely with Schroders Greencoat Capital in developing the partnership and creating opportunities for students to gain valuable experience outside the traditional classroom setting.

During their week in London, the students will have the opportunity to meet and work alongside employees from different areas of the company.

They will gain an insight into investment, finance, business, renewable energy and the skills required to work in a modern international organisation.

The experience will also allow the students to develop important skills such as communication, teamwork, problem-solving, presentation skills and professional networking.

Travelling with the students will be Ms Zara McCabe and Mr Conor Grant, who will accompany and support the group throughout their visit.

For BVS, the internship represents much more than a work placement. It is an opportunity for students to see how the subjects and skills they develop in school can translate into real careers and opportunities.

The partnership also highlights the school's strong commitment to developing links with industry and giving students opportunities to experience the world of work at an early stage in their education.

The five students are now looking forward to travelling to London and making the most of what promises to be an exciting and rewarding week.

The initiative is another example of the innovative opportunities being provided to students at BVS and demonstrates how strong partnerships between schools and businesses can help young people develop the confidence, knowledge and skills needed for their future careers.

For these five students, the week with Schroders Greencoat Capital promises to be an experience they will remember long after they return to Longford.
