SLOW DOWN: new speed limits for local housing estates

A reduced speed limit of 30 kilometres per hour will apply in a swathe of local housing estates.
If follows a decision by Westmeath County Council to approve draft laws implementing the new speed limits at a meeting this week.
The speed limits on all housing estates are currently governed by the speed limit on the road adjoining the entrance to the estate.
However, the move to bring in a 30km/h speed limit in certain housing estates is part of a national initiative.
Westmeath County Council is to implement the new speed limit in all housing estates in charge of the council, and which therefore are classed as public roads.
