Athlone folk act's video is highlighted as one of the year's best

A memorable video in which Athlone songwriter Eddie Keenan is buried alive has been highlighted as one of the best Irish music videos of 2011. The website Entertainment.ie listed the promotional clip for 'That Lasting Final Hurt' by Keenan's folk collective, The Driftwood Manor, at number 14 on its list of the twenty most impressive Irish music videos of this year. Directed by a Galway film production company, tinyEPICs, the video also features singer Anne Marie Hynes from Bogganfin, Athlone. It was the first of three videos of songs from The Driftwood Manor's critically-acclaimed album 'The Same Figure (Leaving)'. The second video was for 'Blackbirds are Screaming' while the third, for the album's title track, will be filmed early next year. The video for 'That Lasting Final Hurt' uses shifts in lighting and other effects to create a dreamlike visual setting for Keenan's 'burial'. It was filmed in woodland in Barna, Galway, last May. Commenting on the video's selection as one of 2011's best, Keenan said: "I'm delighted that tinyEPICS have received recognition. They did a fantastic job and are a brilliant group to work with. "The concept of the video came from the Director, Max Webb. Himself and (Producer) John Cavanagh and the rest of the tinyEPICS crew were amazing. "Really, The Driftwood Manor can't take any credit for the video but we were just delighted to be a part of it." Originally from Tang, Keenan is a gifted and prolific songwriter who formed The Driftwood Manor in 2008. He is currently recording material for a new album. The Driftwood Manor is one of five acts performing in the Roisin Dubh, Galway, at an upcoming Christmas concert organised by independent label Rusted Rail. This gig takes place on Monday, December 19, with doors opening at 8pm.
