Tubberclair Glasson Notes

Well done: Congratulations to Keith Harrington, representing Tubberclair Community Games, on winning a fantastic silver medal in the under 14 gymnastics competition at the National Community Games Finals last weekend in Athlone IT. Everyone locally is very proud of his achievements. Well done also to Eve Kellegher who performed well in under twelve gymnastics competition and Lisa Harrington who swam well in the under twelve contest. Congratulations Congratulations are extended this week to local woman Sarah English whose horse Auburn Diamond Lil recently won the Small Hunter Class at the prestigious Dublin Horse Show for five year olds and upwards, also taking the title of Reserve Champion. "It was a big achievement to get a win there, you are up against the creme de la creme," Sarah English from Auburn Stud in Glasson explained this week. It was the first time she had the first outright winner at Ireland's premier equine event and a fitting triumph considering she lost heavyweight hunter Auburn Diamond Derby in a freak lightning storm over a month ago. The horse, who placed fourth in the 2008 Dublin Horse Show was also due to compete there again this year. Ballykeeran Duck Race The 4th annual Ballykeeran Duck Race takes place on Saturday, August 29 next at 4pm. As usual, it takes place on the Breensford river and people can congregate in the local camp site to watch the action, and more importantly to see if their duck is a winner! This year there will be a €5 race, a monster €20 race and a €2 kiddies race. All races are kindly sponsored by local businesses. There will be fun for all the family with sack races, horseshoe throwing, golf putting planned. Organisers Ballykeeran Residents' Association say ticket sellers will be travelling around locally shortly and tickets will also on sale in The Dog and Duck. Fundraiser A fundraiser for St Luke's Hospital in Dublin takes place in Dan's Tavern on Thursday, August 27 next at 9pm. Music by TR Dallas and friends. Admission is €10. Cemetery Day. Thanks to all who helped out with Cemetery Day on Sunday and had the area looking so well. Huge crowds attended the event again this year. RIP Please pray for Sr Danielle Rushe (Julieann) late of Tonagh, Glasson who died in the USA earlier this month. Glasson Pre-School Open Day Glasson Pre-School Open Day will take place in Glasson Heritage Centre on Saturday, August 22 next from 10am to 12 noon. All are welcome.
