AIT to award Distinguished Fellowships to four sports stars
Four well-known figures from the world of sport will be conferred with Distinguished Fellowships by Athlone IT at a special ceremony next month. Barry McGuigan, Eamonn Coghlan, Sonia O'Sullivan and Ballinahown's Mark Rohan will be honoured at the event on Friday, June 8. Mr McGuigan is a former world champion boxer, while Ms O'Sullivan won Olympic and World medals during a glittering track and field career. Mr Coghlan won gold at the World Athletics Championships in 1983, while world hand-cycling champion Mr Rohan will represent Ireland at this year's London Paralympic Games. The five previous recipients of distinguished fellowships from AIT were: Stephen Grant, founder of Grant Engineering, Dr Donald Panoz, founder of Élan, former President of Ireland Mary McAleese, and former Government Ministers Paddy Cooney and Mary O'Rourke.
