Moate on high alert as lucky EuroMillions player wins €500,000 prize in town

A lucky EuroMillions player in Moate woke up yesterday morning €500,000 better off after winning the top prize on Friday night’s EuroMillions Plus draw.

This is the ninth top prize winner on EuroMillions Plus in Ireland alone this year.

This winner bought their EuroMillions ticket in Marie’s Moate store on Church Street in Moate.

The store owner Padraig Mulhall said: “There is a great buzz about the town. I got the call from the National Lottery last night (Friday) so we have all been spreading the word to customers all morning.

“I reckon the winner must be a local as we don’t get as much passing trade these days, since the bypass opened.

“We are in operation more than 20 years here and have lots of loyal local customers so we’re absolutely thrilled to have sold this winning ticket.”

There was no winner of the €36,088,260 EuroMillions jackpot last night so that rolls to a €45 million (estimated) on Tuesday 21 May.

A spokesperson for the National Lottery said: “This is the ninth EuroMillions player in Ireland to scoop this fantastic €500,000 prize.

“The National Lottery is now appealing to participants in Westmeath, especially those who recently bought a ticket in Moate, to carefully check their EuroMillions tickets to see if they have won this prize.

“If it is you, be sure to sign the back of the ticket, keep this valuable piece of paper safe and contact our prize claims team on 01 836 4444 and we will make arrangements for you to come to the National Lottery to get your prize”.
