New secondary school planned for Kilbeggan

Proposals have been lodged for a brand new secondary school in Kilbeggan, the latest planning lists have revealed.

Sheridan Construction have indicated their intentions in an application to Westmeath County Council for a new Community College building comprising of in excess of 83,000 feet within one and two storey elements.

The ground floor would consist of four classrooms, two lecture rooms, open dining area, music and drama area, library, along with a technical graphics premises, language area, art and crafts room and PE hall. Another four classrooms, two lecture rooms, learning support room, religion room and computer will be accommodated on the second floor of the new school, to be located on the Dublin Road in the town, together with a home economics room, study room, fitness suite, staff room and a woodwork space.

Other facilities in the pipeline for the school include a para-education room, multi-sensory room, two science labs, 91 parking spaces, offices and a courtyard. In terms of the sports facilities, five ball courts, playing pitch, open exercise yard, warm up area and running track with a roofed viewing area.

Access to the school is planned via a new road to the western boundary of the site, one that is intended to link in with the main road. A verdict on the plans will not be forthcoming until late April.
