Midland Warriors RFC in Tullamore

Last Sunday the Midland Warriors U12, U10 and U8 teams travelled to Tullamore RFC with each age group playing two matches against the host club"s mini-rugby section. In the early Spring sunshine all three teams again played extremely well against very experienced Tullamore squads. The U10s lost their first match but came bouncing back to draw the second match. Coach Hugh Flynn and John Hughes supported by Donal Braken were pleased that the Warriors were playing in tough competition. As Hugh Flynn explained: 'It"s great that they played a team of this quality as this is how they will continue to improve.' The U8 squad played equally tough competition but still managed to come out on top securing two victories. Again all the members of the squad played exceptionally well. The Castledaly pair of Hugh Owens and Adam Turley again excelled with Adam scoring what may become the try of the season running past several players down the wing and reaching out in true Brian O"Driscoll style to score a try in the corner in the last few minutes of the match. Newcomer Jack Kelly also played excellently as did Donagh Prendergast who made some astonishing runs and constantly threatened the opposition. Coaches Tony Ennis and Ian Rowlands continue to be impressed with how all of this squad have increased their rugby skills over a relatively short period of time. Finally the Midland Warriors under 12 team had an equally tough encounter playing a very good Tullamore team but again excelled in challenging an experienced opposition in every aspect of the game. Coach Brian Booth remarked: 'They just kept going and I think we surprised the opposition with our tenacity.' A great performance by the U12 squad. The U8, U10 and U12s will play Mullingar at home at Moate Castle Showgrounds this coming Saturday (not Sunday) March 7 at 11.15am .The coaches would ask all parents and relatives to come along and give the teams their support at this home fixture.
