Much Regretted Death of John Gately It was with deep regret, sadness and huge sense of loss that a number of families in the Drum area learned of the sudden and untimely death of John Gately, Curry, Brideswell, Athlone which occurred at his residence on Saturday morning last 4th July. Aged only 52 years, John was the CEO and General Manager of St. Hilda"s Services, Athlone. Having been attached to St. Hilda"s for over thirty years John was the backbone of the organisation and was responsible for developing and expanding the services to a standard second to none. Humble beginnings have now turned into services from Pre-School, School, Adult Training Centre, Resource Centre, Horticulture Units and numerous Respite Houses for people with an intellectual disability. He focused himself to the families" needs and will be sorely missed by his family, staff at St. Hilda"s and the families with whom he had contact through his work to which he was totally dedicated. The community here in Drum wishes to extend sincere sympathy to John"s wife Anne, daughters Mairead and Maeve, son Eoin, his mother Maisie, sisters Eilish, Rosaleen and Noleen, brothers-in-law, sister-in-law, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, neighbours, work colleagues and his many good friends. May he rest in peace.
