New Moate park opens to public this Friday

Excitement is building in Moate ahead of the opening of the town’s new park this Friday.Locals will get a chance to tour the Dún na Sí Amenity and Heritage Park on Friday from 4.30pm to 6.30pm to coincide with Culture Night.

Four years in the making, Darren Doyle, PRO of the Dún na Sí Amenity and Heritage Park Committee, says people in the Moate area are looking forward to getting the chance to walk around the park on Friday, and over the coming weekend.

He thanked the huge numbers who came along last Saturday as part of a volunteer day to put the final touches to the venture.

Asked what people can expect of the amenity, he enthused that one of the stand-out features of the park, located beside Dún na Sí on the Mount Temple road, is the fabulous sculptural and art pieces by artist Patsy Preston, in conjunction with local TY students and teacher James Hatton.

A new playground and nature trails are also expected to prove popular with the public, he added.

The opening will include guided tours by the artists, wildlife experts and those involved in the design of the park, and light refreshments will be served.

Weather permitting a hot air balloon display is also scheduled for the evening.
The committee who have worked tirelessly for the past four years would like to thank everyone for their support in ensuring the project is completed to a very high standard and welcome everyone to the park to enjoy the playground, gym equipment, artistic installations and wildlife areas this Friday.
