Local TD hails success of Reform Alliance conference

The Reform Alliance conference on Saturday was a huge success, according to local TD Denis Naughten, who said for the next couple of weeks or so the group will focus on the issue of small business after a number of ideas came forward at the conference in the RDS.
Deputy Naughten hailed the event as a great success, saying: “To see 1,350 people turn up on a Saturday morning in Dublin was phenomenal. None of the political parties could achieve something like that.
“Clearly there is a hunger there to see the type of reform that the Government spoke of before the last election implemented,” he added.
Deputy Naughten said a lot of ideas came forward on small businesses and reforms that would make it easier for them to do business, such as streamlining PRSI with the USC, with people pointing out that a lot of taxation is built towards foreign direct investment coming in, but there is a huge barrier of bureaucracy for small businesses.
“A lot of specific ideas came out on that that we intend to put forward in the Dáil,” said Deputy Naughten, who said there were also a lot of written submissions on the day and online submissions on this and over the next couple of weeks the group will focus on the issue of local businesses.
“At the end of the day if we could get every small business in this country to employ one more person it would reach half the people on the Live Register,” he said. “We need to reach out to small businesses.”
