Egan steps away from Roscommon ladies' role after All-Ireland success

All-Ireland winning manager Finbar Egan has stepped down from his role with the Roscommon senior ladies' footballers – only a week after steering the county to intermediate success at Croke Park.

Egan was at the helm for a fantastic campaign for the Rossies', having initially taken over the position in August 2024, as they finished the season with a comfortable victory against Fermanagh in the All-Ireland decider.

However, the vastly experienced and successful manager has now left the role, Roscommon LGFA has confirmed.

"Roscommon LGFA can confirm that we have accepted the resignation of Finbar Egan from his position as manager of the senior adult team. We would like to sincerely thank Finbar for the huge amount of time, effort and commitment he has given to the team, the players and Roscommon LGFA over the past two seasons,” Roscommon LGFA said in a statement.

It went on to praise Egan's dedication and hard work, which it noted has been 'greatly appreciated and has made a real difference'.

"It has been a pleasure to work with Finbar,” the LGFA said.

“His professionalism, enthusiasm and genuine commitment to the players have been clear throughout his time as manager, and he leaves his role having made a lasting contribution to Roscommon LGFA. We wish Finbar every success and happiness in the future and thank him for the significant contribution he has made to Roscommon LGFA."

Speaking after the All-Ireland final win, Egan said: “Roscommon, in my opinion, are back where they belong - in senior football. It's taken way too long to get back. I'm delighted that they're back in there. The minors got to an All-Ireland final, the U16s won an All-Ireland title, so these players have taken a major step and hopefully the rest will follow and push further.”

The Monksland native has has helped transform his native county's fortunes, as in 2025, they won a relegation play-off against Wicklow to maintain intermediate status.
