Some slight stirrings of better weather ahead

After a not-very-June-like start to the month, weather conditions in the Midlands are likely to improve during the second half of this week.

The weather failed to cooperate during a damp and blustery Bank Holiday weekend, with the temperature dipping to just 3.5 degrees at the Met Eireann weather station in Mullingar at one stage on Saturday.

However, today (Wednesday) is likely to be a mainly dry day with sunny spells and just isolated showers, according to the national meteorological service. Temperatures will climb to between 15 and 17 degrees celsius during the day, in light westerly winds, before dropping to 6-8 degrees overnight.

A similar day is expected on Thursday, with dry weather and some sunshine in most parts of the country. The exception will be along Atlantic coasts where rainfall could be heavy at times before breaking up as the day goes on.

The forecast for Friday predicts a “a day of sunny spells and scattered showers” with temperatures “around normal for the time of year.”
Saturday looks likely to be “a little cooler, with sunshine and showers,” while the outlook for subsequent days is uncertain at this stage.
