Talks continue in effort to avert train strike

Thousands of train users could have their travel plans disrupted by strike action this Friday, as talks continue in a dispute involving Iarnród Éireann train drivers.

The strike is currently scheduled to take place over the course of several hours on Friday morning.

Fourteen hours of talks took place yesterday in an effort to avert the strike.

The discussions are continuing this afternoon (Wednesday) at the Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) between management at Iarnród Éireann and the trade unions Siptu and NBRU.

The dispute revolves around pay claims by drivers for productivity measures put in place in recent years such as new safety responsibilities and the operation of additional services.

Iarnród Éireann said that if the strike goes ahead Intercity services prior to 14.00hrs on Friday will be affected.

The company said there may be a limited service between 09.00hrs and 14.00hrs.
