Athlone householder's novel solution to election leaflets!

For weeks now, leaflets promoting many of the general election candidates have been shoved, en masse, through local letterboxes.

But at least one Athlone resident decided to take a stand against this avalanche of political literature.

Spotted on the doorstep of a house in St Mary’s Place last week was a bin containing a handwritten instruction to “deposit election rubbish here please”.

The message didn’t differentiate between party or creed.

Whether the leaflet was from Fine Gael, Labour, Fianna Fail, Sinn Fein, or others, the message was the same: Drop it straight into the bin.
