Thousands affected as water supply is cut off for much of Athlone

Virtually all of the east side of Athlone - including the IDA Business Park, Athlone IT, and the town's two largest shopping centres - is currently experiencing disruption to its water supply.

The water supply issues began at around 10am this morning (Thursday) and are not expected to be resolved until 5pm this afternoon.

An Irish Water representative said the issues were a result of work to upgrade the Annagh reservoir which serves most of east Athlone.

The disruption is also affecting some areas outside of the town itself, including Clonbonny, Mount Temple, Ballykeeran, and Glasson.
