Moate homecoming for Joe Ward on Tuesday
A homecoming celebration will take place in Moate tomorrow night (Tuesday) to honour Joe Ward's achievement in winning a third gold medal at the European senior boxing championships.
No other male Irish boxer has won more than one European gold, but the 23-year-old Moate man completed his remarkable hat trick of medals with a win over Russia's Muslim Gadzhimagomedov on Saturday.
The Irish team returned home from the tournament in the Ukraine late last night. Speaking to the Westmeath Independent this afternoon, Ward said the homecoming event was being organised by local man Niall Mackey.
It is due to take place at Moate Library at 9pm on Tuesday, and all are invited to come along to meet Joe and see his latest European gold medal.
