€1m lotto windfall collected by Westmeath syndicate

A Westmeath lotto syndicate is €1 million richer after claiming the prize it won with a ticket purchased in Ballynacargy.  

In a statement issued this afternoon (Monday), the National Lottery said the the winning syndicate had called to Lotto HQ in Dublin to collect the prize today. 

The syndicate wished to keep its identity private.

Its ticket had been purchased in the Ballynacargy shop owned by Labour TD Willie Penrose and his wife, Anne. 

It won the top prize in the Lotto Plus 1 draw held on draw on Saturday, September 22.

The lotto statement quoted one member of the syndicate as saying: “It has been a crazy week.” 

“We started getting calls from the head of the Lotto syndicate on the Sunday morning after the draw and we were absolutely stunned – we just couldn’t believe it,” said the syndicate member.

“We’ve been keeping our heads down all week to let all of the excitement in the town die down a little bit. We’ll certainly enjoy the celebrations this week and we look forward to being able to help family and friends with our winnings as soon as we can.”
