WATCH: Athlone’s Sam reflects on Traitors journey and finding his place in the community

Athlone's Sam Omukoro has reflected on his time on the popular game show The Traitors, as well as the journey that brought him to the Midlands and helped him find a sense of community through the GAA.

Sam saw his involvement in the popular game show reach an untimely end on the episode which aired on Sunday night, September 13.

Speaking to Oliver Callan on RTE Radio One, Sam revealed he is rooting for fellow contestant Pete O'Flynn to go all the way in the show.

"I'd be wrong if I didn't say Pete, after him crying for me!" Sam said.

"I think he has it in him. If he's any more vocal at that round table they might come and get him. He's a strong player."

Sam also spoke about arriving to Ireland in the direct provision system and finding his community through Athlone GAA.

"You come in through the direct provision system, and you live in Mosney for a number of years, and then we were transferred to Athlone," he said.

"That's when I found out about Gaelic football, and I was nicely integrated through playing with Athlone GAA. It made it easier to integrate and fit into the community."

Making light of his tall stature, Sam said he was put into goals at the club.

"I used to actually catch points going over the bar," he laughed.

After school, Sam went to college in GMIT, graduating with a degree in computer science. He now works with the HSE, and has been there for over five years.
