Call for council to reward those who tell on litter-lout neighbours

Westmeath County Council is to be asked to introduce a reward scheme for those who inform on members of the public who litter or engage in illegal dumping.

The proposal is to be discussed at tomorrow's meeting of the Athlone Municipal District of the council.

A motion from Cllr Aengus O'Rourke tabled for the meeting calls for the scheme to encourage people to provide information to authorities.

The motion reads: “For this Municipal District to introduce and offer a 'reward' scheme for members of the public who come forward with firm information about people they witness Littering, Dumping, Dog Fouling etc.. that then leads to a fine being paid or to a successful prosecution.”
