Hilarious ad posted for Athlone houseshare

House-hunting these days is no barrel of laughs, but the tenants of one Athlone property have done their bit to change that with an amusing and highly unusual advertisement for a room in the house they're renting in Woodville Close.

The ad, which was posted on daft.ie, offers a bedroom for rent at €250 a month in a house shared with three others.

However, it states that the house is "close to no amenities, unless you love motorways, Spar, and Bucaneers Rugby. If you work for Ericsson then you'll practically live at work, which is really nice if you're super-positive about it."

It goes on to say that the house is "in a quiet family area where there are far too many families with far too many kids making far too much noise and asking far too many questions."

The house is "well lit" and the living room "gives it a romantic feel," we are told.

In addition, it is "always as clean as you see it now and we will not field any questions around this."

"At the end of the street there are neighbours that we actually like who have 3 dogs and 2 cats. They are sometimes in our house because I like to play with them. The animals may also visit from time to time," the ad continues.

"The neighbourhood overall is very multi-cultural because of our proximity to Ericsson, so if you are a racist or even a xenophobe, you are urged to steer clear."

An important line in the ad clarifies that Disney fans are "preferred but not expected".

The second half of the ad contains all the "useful information" and it states that the "current occupants are all male Ericsson engineers, so someone in the same boat would be ideal, however all will be considered as long as they fit with the conditions contained in the useless information above."

The person who placed the ad, Robin Allen, told the Westmeath Independent that the response so far  has been "mostly positive" although "a few people have looked quite nervous on viewing".

"When someone messages me and says they meet all the conditions, I actually worry a little bit about them!" he laughed.

At the time of writing, the memorable ad had been viewed over 15,000 times on the Daft.ie site.
