Man airlifted to hospital following crash

A man was airlifted to hospital in Galway after a two-vehicle crash in South Roscommon on Tuesday, Gardai have confirmed.

The accident happened at Eskerbeg, close to Castlesampson, Taughmaconnell, when a motorbike was in collision with a lorry around midday.

The motorcyclist, a man in his 40s, was injured in the crash, and he was subsequently airlifted to University Hospital, Galway for treatment.

The man's current condition is not known. He's not thought to hail from the local area.Luckily, the driver of the lorry escaped injury.

The road was shut for sometime after the accident to facilitate an examination of the stretch, and to allow for the removal of the vehicles.

Gardai in Roscommon said investigations are continuing into the circumstances of this crash; the vehicles were travelling in opposite directions before the collision took place.
