Rosemount priest to celebrate televised Holy Thursday Mass

Rosemount native Fr Joe Campbell will celebrate a televised Mass of the Lord’s Supper today (Holy Thursday), April 9 from 4.40pm to 5.35pm.

The Mass will be celebrated in the Cathedral of Christ the King, Mullingar and will be shown on RTÉ One TV.

It will air on radio at the later time of 7pm (RTÉ Radio 1 Extra/Long Wave 252/ digital radio platforms). Fr Campbell is a past pupil of the Carmelite College, Moate.

The broadcasts are part of extended RTÉ coverage due to the effect of restrictions from the COVID-19 emergency on public attendance at masses.

On Holy Saturday, April 11, RTÉ2 will broadcast Easter Vigil Mass from The Cathedral in Mullingar from 10pm to 11pm, with Bishop of Meath Tom Deenihan the celebrant.

Beginning with the lighting of the Paschal candle, the liturgy, which signifies the triumph of light over darkness and of life over death, may have particular poignancy in the current COVID-19 pandemic. This will also be broadcast on RTÉ Radio 1 Extra/LW252.

On Good Friday, from 3pm to 4pm on RTÉ One TV, the Solemn Liturgy for Good Friday will be broadcast live from the Cathedral of Christ the King, where Fr Derek Darby will commemorate the Passion and death of Christ. (RTÉ One TV & RTÉ Radio 1 Extra/LW252).
