Man due in court after cocaine seizure at Ballinasloe checkpoint

A man in his 20s is due to appear before Ballinasloe District Court on Thursday after he was arrested in connection with the seizure of more than €8,000 worth of cocaine.

The Garda Press Office said the drugs were discovered after a car had been stopped at a Garda checkpoint in Beagh, near Ballinasloe, at approximately 4.30pm on Sunday.

Some €8,400 worth of cocaine was seized by the Gardai, and the man was arrested and charged in connection with the drugs seizure.

Separately, Gardai in Roscommon town are investigating a break-in at the Roscommon Primary Care Centre, on the Golf Links Road, in the early hours of Friday morning last, May 1.

Sergeant Kieran Carroll said there was slight damage done to a door at the primary care centre, but to date nothing has been reported as being stolen.

CCTV is being viewed, and Gardai are asking members of the public who may have seen anyone walking in or around the primary care centre from 12.30am onwards to contact the Garda station at 09066 38300.
