Dylan Gavin celebrates his goal for Billericay Town.

Gavin's stunning strike wins Essex Cup final

Dylan Gavin scored a sensational winning goal for Billericay Town in the Essex Senior Cup final last night (Tuesday).

The Athlone man struck just past the half-hour mark as Billericay defeated Bowers & Pitsea in the final at Colchester United’s Community Stadium.

Gavin's superbly executed shot from some 25 yards out dipped over the head of goalkeeper Mitchell Beeney and into the net.

It proved the game’s only goal as Gavin – who is on loan to Billericay from Charlton Athletic - emerged as the match winner.

Speaking about the goal on his Twitter page, Gavin said: "Wow, what a night, what a win as well, good to get my first senior trophy with this great club, delighted to have scored the winner as well, keep pushing to the final game of the season, fans were incredible as well."

And on its Twitter page, Billericay Town FC described Gavin's goal as "absolutely outrageous" and "worthy of winning the final".

A native of Sarsfield Square, Dylan began his football career with St Francis and also played for Athlone Town.

The Essex Senior Cup is a prestigious and long-running knockout competition that is mainly contested by non-league clubs.
