Views on proposed Mullingar to Kilbeggan greenway sought

Westmeath County Council (WCC) and Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) intends to build a greenway between Kilbeggan to Mullingar.

It will form a link between the established greenway infrastructure, which is part of the Galway to Dublin national cycleway, at Mullingar and the greenway infrastructure at Kilbeggan, which links to the Grand Canal Greenway.

It will provide a high-quality facility, designed to promote cycling, walking and other non-motorised travel.

The project will be carried out in a phased process in accordance with the TII Project Manager’s Manual for Greenway Projects.

Westmeath County Council (WCC) have appointed consultant engineers RPS to carry out Phases 1 to Phase 4 of the proposed project.

The project is now at the initial Phase 1 Public Consultation stage, which focuses on the Study Area and Constraints.

The council have identified the broad project study area (see map) within which the greenway could feasibly be located.

Westmeath County Council (WCC) want to hear people’s views on this project and invite them to attend the first public consultation event, in Bloomfield House Hotel, on May 18 between 3pm and 8pm.

At this event, maps and information will be displayed and members of the council project team and RPS will be in attendance to discuss the project and answer questions people have.

A brochure with project details and a feedback form can be collected at the event or from the Westmeath County Council National Roads Office following the event to submit feedback on the project.

All feedback should be returned to the project team by June 8, 2023 by email to: info@kilbeggantomullingargreenway.ie or post to: Kilbeggan to Mullingar Greenway, RPS, Lyrr 2, IDA Business and Technology Park, Mervue, Galway, H91 H9CK.
