Council warn about bogus staff calling to homes

Members of the public have been asked to contact their local garda station if they are approached by bogus council workers offering to carry out tarmac repairs or to clean gutters.

Westmeath County Council posted a message on social media in recent days saying that it has “ been made aware of reports of individuals circulating local areas purporting to be staff of Westmeath County Council offering tarmacking / guttering services”.

“Westmeath County Council staff carry authorised identification and you should always ask to see this identification. Do not engage with the callers, and report these incidents to your local Garda station.

“Callers to homes are on the increase, especially this time of year. Please be diligent if looking for services to be done around the home,” the council advised.
