Athlone based Ukrainian artist, Valeriia Poliushko will showcase a series of landscapes, still life, plein-air, floral and nature-inspired compositions at the Aidan Heavey Library. The exhibition will launch on Niovember 9, and go on till December 4.

Her exhibition, entitled Beyond the Rush, is aimed at stoking the art of noticing in the viewer. “There is so much beauty in the ordinariness of nature that we forget to notice. The idea behind this series is to pause and show people the beauty of nature lost to rush,” said Valeriia.

The 30-artworks on display are rendered in oil-on-canvas with some also featuring gold leaf work. “I also enjoy using oil pastels in my work,” added Valeriia.

She also informed that the paintings are created on a specially prepared canvas to yield better oil paintings, such a canvas also adds character to the artwork even in areas that are not covered with paint. “I deliberately leave certain areas of the canvas unpainted, allowing the natural texture and colour of the material to become part of the artwork. This gives my paintings a more organic feel. Some of these works will also be featured in the exhibition,” shared Valeriia.

Beyond the Rush will be held at Atrium, Aidan Heavey Library, Athlone, from November 9 to December 4.
