Local pub releases entertaining Christmas video

A fun Christmas video recorded in Egan’s pub in Mount Temple has been viewed over 7,000 times after streaming on the Mount Temple Christmas Lights online show hosted by Padraig Allen.

The video was filmed by local man Tom Daly and tells the story of four local men discussing the highlights of the past year in Mount Temple which is voiced through the lyrics of the song also.

Tom said: “Following our successful “Slade” video this time last year, we have made another video which has been shared over 50 times and has 7,000 views since it was posted during the week. It’s based on a song I wrote about the goings on in Mount Temple over recent times.”

Tom said that the song was originally supposed to the form of a poem or short story but he felt that a song was the best way to highlight the events in the village over recent months such as the mock wedding event, a fundraiser for Caulry GAA and the 50th anniversary of Temple Villa AFC.

The entertaining video and performance was also done in conjunction with the fundraiser set up in aid of Mount Temple Christmas Lights. Donations will go towards the setting up and running of the Christmas lights in Mount Temple village.

Tom added that they made the video as “a bit of fun” over the past couple of months and highlighted the huge response they have gotten to the video so far. “We were just trying to mark all that happened over the past 12 months.”

“Mount Temple is so lively and vibrant and there's so much going on. We're delighted that the song will highlight it.”

It features local men John G Buckley, Richard Higgins, Mark Malone and Frank Rourke speaking at the beginning and end of the video in a scene filmed in Egan's pub in the village. The original song was performed by Shane Dolan and written by Tom Daly who also thought of the idea for the story of the Christmas video.

The video also features some lovely music by local musicians, Willie Byrne, Brendan Doyle and Sharleen Doyle. Locals living abroad in countries such as Australia and Canada also sent is video clips with Christmas messages for the community.

The video showed photos of Baylin and Egan's pub in Mount Temple along with photos of Corpus Christi Church and the school and shop. They drew attention to the success of Temple Villa, winning Club of the Year this year at the CCFL awards, and presented photos from last year's viral Christmas video featuring a cover of a popular Slade song.

Mount Temple Village Lights hopes to reach a target of €1,000 and they have raised €810 to date.
