South Roscommon's Payne nets shoot-out winner in English League Cup
Local soccer star Heather Payne was the hero for Leicester City last weekend as her penalty shoot-out effort gave her side victory against Southampton in the English Women's League Cup.
Heather, who hails from South Roscommon, close to Ballinasloe, took Leicester's fifth and final penalty after the team's drew, 1-1. And the 51-times capped Republic of Ireland international made no mistake in slotting home past Saints' netminder Alina Santos.
Heather, who has also played for Everton in recent years, was joined in the Leicester starting line-up by former Athlone Town goalkeeper Katie Keane and fellow Irish international Jessica Stapleton. Leicester currently plays in the second-tier of the English professional league system and currently lies in eighth place in the league standings.
