Weather warnings in Spain while Ireland basks in May sunshine

Ireland is enjoying another day of sunshine while parts of Spain, Portugal and France are under warnings for rain and thunderstorms.

Met Éireann said the fine and dry weather in Ireland will continue next week, though some outbreaks of rain will take place on Sunday night and Monday before settled conditions return.

Meanwhile, Spain's national meteorological agency AEMET has issued a series of alerts for rain and thunderstorms, with some popular holiday destinations affected.

The worst impacted areas are parts of northern Spain, such as Galicia, Asturias, Cantabria and the Basque Country, where rain is set continue for most of the weekend.

The storms will also impact the eastern Mediterranean coast, especially inland parts of Valencia and Catalonia.

Similar warnings are in place for northern Portugal and western France.

Back in Ireland, next week will start off with a mix of cloud and sunny spells and the odd rain shower, before mainly warm and dry conditions return.

Met Éireann said high pressure is likely to become dominant through the latter part of the week, mitigating the chance of further showers and re-establishing mainly fine and settled conditions.

Daytime temperatures will be in high teens or low 20s, well above average for the time of year.
