Historical lecture to take place in Moate this coming Monday

The Moate Museum and Historical Society will be hosting an upcoming lecture by Dublin historian John Dorney on Monday next, June 15, in the Carmelite Pastoral Centre, Moate, at 8pm. All are warmly invited to attend.

Mr Dorney's lecture is entitled 'Elizabethan Plantations and Gaelic resistance in the Irish Midlands'. He will delve into the history of the Irish Midlands during this turbulent time and discuss the Gaelic chiefs' response to the plantations.

John Dorney is the editor of The Irish Story website which publishes articles on Irish history, particularly focused on the revolutionary period. He is the author of 'Peace After the Final Battle' and 'The Civil War in Dublin' and is part of the UCC Civil War Fatalities Project.

His background in early modern Irish history lies in his Masters thesis: 'Florence McCarthy and the end of Gaelic Munster 1560-1640'.
