Local connections enjoy Roscommon Races win

There was much joy for Westmeath at Roscommon Races last week

Soldante, trained by Ciaran Murphy in Mullingar, and owned by Kilbeggan’s Pat and David McCormack and Moate’s Sarah Glynn triumphed in the Sweeney Oil Handicap Chase on Monday.

Murphy said: “It was a lovely performance too from Soldante to notch his first win over fences with Kevin Healy. Congratulations to his owner-breeders Pat and David McCormack and Sarah Glynn, having shown plenty of faith and patience with this horse.”

The eight-year-old obliged at odds of 10/1, winning by five lengths.

It was the second leg of a double for the Westmeath trainer who also saddled Wild Bill Hickok to prevail in the McGowan Accountancy Services Novice Chase.

The four-year-old was ridden by Eoghan Finegan for owner Paddy Sheanon.
