June date confirmed for family market and fun day in Athlone

The Connaught Street & Environs Community Group will host its third market and family fun day of the year in The Hollow, at the Battery Bridge, on Sunday, June 28, from 12pm-4pm.

The market will celebrate talent, heritage and culture in the heart of the Connaught Street community with stalls featuring delicious food, handmade crafts and unique finds from talented local makers and businesses.

This is the final market and family fun day before Heritage Week returns to Connaught Street in August so organisers are inviting the local communtiy to 'come down and enjoy a proper west side weekend with music, singing, sport, stalls, food, family fun and that great Connaught Street buzz'.

'We are right in the heart of old Athlone, from the Castle to the Canal, surrounded by so much history, heritage, cafés, restaurants and great local pubs'.

'Take a stroll around the oldest part of town, call into Sean’s Bar, The Snug, The Castle Inn, The Fiddlers, Val Beaumont’s, The Connaught Lounge, Walsh’s McNeill’s and the Shamrock Lodge Hotel and make a weekend of it'.

The organisers have commended the local vendors, makers, bakers, crafters, food producers and small businesses who continue to support the Connaught Street Market since its inauguration in August 2025.

'Support local makers, bring the children, meet your neighbours, grab a bite, have a wander and help us keep bringing life back to the west side'.
