Temperatures could hit 30 degrees as Met Éireann issues heat warning

Temperatures in Westmeath and Roscommon could climb as high as 30 degrees Celsius this week, Met Éireann has forecast.

A yellow weather warning for high temperatures across Ireland was issued this morning (Monday) and comes into effect at 12 noon tomorrow, with the national forecasting service advising people to expect "exceptionally warm" conditions.

"Daytime temperatures will exceed 25 degrees, with temperatures possibly reaching 30 degrees on Thursday," said Met Éireann.

It will also be "very mild, humid and possibly uncomfortable at night" with temperatures after dark generally staying "above 15 degrees".

"Thunderstorms are possible also, particularly on Thursday," said Met Éireann, which added that further updates to forecasts and warnings could be issued in the coming days.

The yellow-level high temperature warning for Ireland is currently due to be in effect from 12 noon on Tuesday to 9am on Friday.

Online forecasting personality Alan O'Reilly, of Carlow Weather, agreed that Thursday will be the hottest day of the week, with "30, 31, maybe even 32 degrees possible in some spots on Thursday".
