Athlone restaurant to take over renowned Glasson pub and eatery
Athlone restaurant The Fatted Calf has announced that it's relocating to the Grogan's bar and restaurant premises in Glasson.
In a social media post, The Fatted Calf's owners, Feargal and Fiona O'Donnell, announced that after 11 years in its Athlone Towncentre unit overlooking the town's civic square, the business was now on the move to Glasson.
The Grogan's premises, including a four-bedroom home on its site, went on the market for an asking price of €1 million last summer.
Local real estate company Sheehy Meares wished The Fatted Calf the best on its move to Grogan's, and said: "We were delighted to be involved in the sale of this iconic restaurant and bar."
The Fatted Calf said it will be "preserving the character" of Grogan's but will be "adding a few little touches to some areas, serving our award-winning food, some golden oldies from the OG, plus some exciting new menu additions".
The restaurant said it will serve its final customers at its Athlone premises on Saturday, July 25, before the planned reopening in Glasson in early August.
The owners said the restaurant's existing team will relocate to Glasson, where they will be joined by "a few new faces".
