Athlone GAA to host LGFA All-Ireland final

Athlone GAA will host the LGFA All-Ireland Under-16 ‘A’ Championship final between Cavan and Kildare tonight (Wednesday), July 15.

The match is scheduled to start in Páirc Chiaráin at 7.30pm and it should attract a decent attendance to the Athlone venue.

It's believed to be over 40 years since Athlone GAA hosted an All-Ireland top grade final at any level.

Athlone GAA opened an impressive new bar at Áras Chiaráin earlier this year, with GAA President Jarlath Burns the special guest for the occasion. And with the very warm spell of weather continuing, plenty of supporters will surely avail of the chance to quench their thirst at the bar tonight.

Garrison Coffee recently took over the cafe at the Athlone GAA clubhouse, and it's open every Saturday and Sunday between 9am and 4pm.

The cafe was initially run by a familiar figure in Athlone GAA circles, Darren Magee, who runs Spill the Beans on Castle Street, in addition to being Westmeath GAA Games Development Manager.

Athlone GAA is currently selling tickets for its All-Ireland hurling final draw. The prize includes two tickets to Sunday's eagerly awaited showdown between Galway and Limerick, a night in the four-star Croke Park Hotel (including pre-match breakfast) and €500 spending money.

The draw takes place tomorrow night (Thursday), July 16 at 9pm so the time to buy tickets (priced at €10) is running out.

Meanwhile, Westmeath club Coralstown/Kinnegad will also play host to an All-Ireland final tonight with Roscommon taking on Laois in the LGFA All-Ireland Under-16 ‘B’ decider at 7.15.
